With summer in full swing, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and let your wellness routine take a backseat. It’s okay—we’re here to help you navigate the busy summer season with ease! Take a breath and let’s chat about our favorite tips for maintaining your health when it feels like you can’t possibly squeeze one more thing into your day.

  1. Stay aligned with regular chiropractic care

You know we would be remiss if we didn’t mention this, right? Summer is the season for activity, whether you’re hiking, playing sports, or even just chasing the kids at the park. Your spine is literally the backbone of your body’s alignment and overall health, so it’s important to take care of it! Stress and increased activity can lead to misalignments, tension, and pain. We’ll help you keep your spine properly aligned, and keep you moving freely all summer.

2. Daily movement

Notice we didn’t say daily “workout” or “fitness routine.” If your summer schedule is chaotic, trying to squeeze in a structured workout may be out of the question for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find time for movement. Sneak in some activity wherever you can. If your kids are still pretty young, you can incorporate it into your daily family routine. Play a game of tag, do some yoga together, go on a hike, or ride bikes. Every little bit of movement counts!

3. Prioritize sleep

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, sleep is often the first thing to get sacrificed. But skimping on sleep can wreak havoc on your health and well-being, affecting everything from mood and cognitive function to immune function and weight management. So, make quality sleep a non-negotiable part of your routine. Create a relaxing bedtime ritual, power down your devices, and aim for 7-9 hours of restorative sleep each night. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

4. Plan healthy meals and hydration

When your schedule is packed and it feels like you can’t possibly do one more thing, the best habit to maintain is your nutrition. Even if you can’t get your daily workout in, if you can fuel your body well, you’ll be setting yourself up for success when life slows down again. We know it can be tempting to reach for convenience foods, but with a little bit of planning, you can make sure that you have healthy snacks ready and available for when hunger strikes. Meal prep is your secret weapon here!

While we’re on the topic of maintaining your nutrition, we should also touch on your hydration. It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when you’re busy, but as the temps go up, it’s even more important to remember to stay hydrated. Water is the best bet, but if you want to mix things up, try coconut water, herbal teas, or fruit-infused water.

5. Choose gratitude

Amid the summer madness, don't forget to pause and appreciate the little moments of joy and beauty around you. Take a moment to breathe in the scent of freshly cut grass, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, or watch the sunset with your loved ones. Practicing gratitude and mindfulness can help shift your perspective and bring a sense of peace and contentment amidst the chaos of daily life.
